Haberin tamamı

US President Donald Trump has sold shares worth tens of millions of US dollars in major tech companies, including Microsoft, Amazon and Meta Platforms in July, a move that may reveal some of his views on the sector, especially as competition with China intensifies.

Microsoft topped the list of sales transactions, with six trades totalling up to US$31 million, according to filings disclosed by the US Office of Government Ethics on Tuesday. The data detailed Trump’s trading activity in July, providing ranges rather than exact figures.

He also offloaded up to US$26 million worth of Amazon shares, and up to US$630,000 and US$365,000 in Meta Platforms and Google’s parent company Alphabet, respectively.

He sold some US$1 million worth of Nvidia shares during the month in two transactions, with another purchase of a similar value. He also continued to buy shares in other tech giants, despite the number of purchases being lower than sales for most of these companies.

Across the month, sales outnumbered purchases by over 700 to nearly 400, according to the filing.

The disclosures could reveal some of Trump’s views on artificial intelligence, one of the focuses of a highly anticipated meeting between Xi and Trump. High-level talks starting Sunday between top trade representatives from the world’s two largest economies were “very successful”, according to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, with Washington proposing a bilateral notification mechanism for national security incidents related to AI.

The heads of nearly all of the tech giants mentioned above were expected to attend a high-profile dinner in Washington on Thursday, according to a CNBC report on Wednesday. That includes Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Nvidia’s Jensen Huang, Google’s Sundar Pichai, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg.

They would be joined by other industry heavyweights including OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Tesla and SpaceX’s Elon Musk and Apple’s Tim Cook, according to CNBC.

The filings showed that Trump added positions in hardware and chip companies in the computing and telecommunications sectors, and in companies with domestic manufacturing footprints. On July 31, he bought up to US$500,000 in shares of US chipmaker Texas Instruments, as well as networking chip and software giant Broadcom. He also established new six-figure positions in legacy tech companies IBM and Cisco Systems.

Trump is not alone in his apparent skepticism about the tech sector’s high-flying momentum. On Tuesday, prominent US hedge fund manager Michael Burry – known for being portrayed in the movie The Big Short – said he was doubling down on bearish bets on semiconductor and AI.

Questioning the durability of the memory supercycle, Burry said shares in memory producers “really ran up to ridiculous prices for what they are” and would “sell down intensely”. He said he had added to his short positions “in some size” against Micron Technology, Nebius Group, Palantir Technologies and the broader iShares Semiconductor exchange-traded fund, according to a Substack post.
