<p>TotalEnergies SE on Monday announced a final investment decision (FID) to proceed with the Ima Gas Development, which would unlock up to 350 million cubic feet per day (MMcfd) of feed gas for Nigeria LNG.</p> <p>"Once on stream, the Ima field will supply about one-third of the gas required for the ongoing Nigeria LNG Train 7 expansion project, which will increase the liquefaction plant capacity from 22 million tons per annum (Mtpa) to 30 Mtpa", France's TotalEnergies said in a press release.

Ima is expected to start production 2028.</p> <p>The development involves installing a new platform and connecting it to the liquefaction facility via a 22-kilometer (13.67 miles) pipeline.</p> <p>"Ima is a low-cost and low-emissions development, with a simplified platform design, electric power supply from shore, no flaring and permanent methane detection and monitoring", TotalEnergies said.</p> <p>"Developed in partnership with the Nigerian company AMNI, Ima project is characterized by strong Nigerian content, with all key contractors being local companies".</p> <p>Ima straddles Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 112 and 117.

TotalEnergies is operator in both licenses with a 40 percent stake.

Amni International Petroleum Development Co Ltd owns 60 percent.</p> <p>"After the Ubeta project sanctioned in 2024 and expected to start up next year, Ima demonstrates again our ability to unlock new low-cost and low-emissions gas resources, following the incentives introduced by the Nigerian Government for non-associated gas developments”, said TotalEnergies president for exploration and production Nicolas Terraz.</p><div id='newsArticleDianomoAds' style='display:none'><hr style='margin:5px 0px;'><div style='color:#808080;text-align: center;'>Advertisement - Scroll to continue</div><div class='dianomi_context' data-dianomi-context-id='4460'></div></div> <p>Ubeta has a projected peak production of 300 MMcfd, or about 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day including condensates, according to TotalEnergies' FID announcement June 20, 2024.

Six wells will be connected to existing Obite facilities via an 11-kilometer pipeline.</p> <p>Ubeta is part of the onshore OML 58, where TotalEnergies is operator with a 40 percent stake. Nigeria National Petroleum Co Ltd (NNPC) holds 60 percent. OML 58 currently supplies Nigeria LNG through the Ibewa and Obagi fields.</p> <p>In Nigeria LNG, TotalEnergies owns 15 percent. NNPC owns 49 percent. Britain's Shell PLC holds 25.6 percent.

Italy's Eni SpA has 10.4 percent.</p> <p>Last year Shell approved the HI field, in which it owns 40 percent, to supply up to 350 MMcfd to Nigeria LNG.</p> <p>"The increase in feedstock to NLNG, via the train 7 project that aims to expand the Bonny Island terminal’s production capacity, is in line with Shell's plans to grow its global LNG volumes by an average of four to five percent per year until 2030", Shell said October 14, 2025.</p> <p>The plan for HI, estimated to hold about 285 million barrels of oil equivalent, consists of a wellhead platform with four wells, a pipeline to transport the gas to Bonny and a gas processing plant on the island, from where the processed gas will be transported to Nigeria LNG and the condensate to the Bonny Oil and Gas Export Terminal.</p> <p><em>To contact the author, email jov.onsat@rigzone.com</em></p>
