Haberin tamamı
Oman’s Asyad Shipping has agreed to sell three of the oldest tankers in its fleet for a combined OMR68.44m ($178m) as the Muscat-listed owner accelerates the replacement of ageing tonnage with a large slate of newbuildings.
The company is selling the 2011-built VLCCs Seeb and Samail for a combined OMR61.7m ($160.5m). A separate transaction covers the 2008-built MR product tanker Al Amerat at OMR6.74m ($17.5m).
The 319,439 dwt Seeb was built at South Korea’s DSME, while the 302,845 dwt Samail came from Japan. Al Amerat is a 51,022 dwt STX-built product tanker delivered in December 2008. The VLCC disposals effectively clear out the last of Asyad’s 2011-built crude carriers.
The company agreed late last year to sell sister-vintage VLCC Saiq for OMR23m ($60m), with the transaction completed in the first half of 2026. Asyad expected the disposal to generate an approximately OMR8m ($20m) positive earnings impact and said it would continue looking for opportunities to sell older ships and recycle the proceeds into fleet expansion.
The latest sales come as Asyad moves quickly in the opposite direction at the younger end of the fleet.
Splash reported in January that the company ordered another three 300,000 dwt VLCCs at Hanwha Ocean for about $388.5m, with delivery in 2028 and 2029. The trio added to four VLCCs ordered at the Korean yard in 2024 for roughly $130m each.
The first vessel from that earlier series, Bidbid, arrived two months ahead of schedule in May. Three more were due to join during the second half of this year, with two already covered by long-term employment when Asyad reported its half-year results.
The same replacement strategy is playing out in product tankers.
Al Amerat leaves just as Asyad builds a new charter-backed MR fleet in South Korea. Splash reported this month that the owner had exercised options for two more 49,999 dwt ships at HD Hyundai, taking that programme to eight vessels and total investment to around OMR158.9m ($411.6m). All eight have five-year charter cover and are scheduled to deliver from 2029.
Asyad has been unusually active in both buying and selling tonnage since its Muscat listing. First-half capital expenditure more than doubled to OMR260.4m, while net profit rose 92% to OMR38.9m. The company said in August that favourable prices for older ships had given it an opportunity to accelerate fleet renewal while continuing to add modern tonnage.
Its fleet stood at 91 vessels at the end of June, comprising 79 operating ships and 12 vessels then on order, before a further series of post-period investments.
